I have just returned from my third and probably final expedition to the far eastern tip of Mongolia to observe the rut of alces alces cameloides.
I have spent over 20 years studying this rare and fascinating moose and would like to report on the present situation I find on the borders of China and Russia where both the Pfitzmeiri and Cameloides
exist.
The punishing weather at this time of the year and my age of 81 make the chances of my returning for another rut most unlikely though I would love to visit the steppe one year in June before the mosquitoes arrive. I work entirely alone and finance myself, thereby saying exactly what I see without fear or favour.
